Can you help me solve these equations?

1 + 1/3
----------
1 -3/7

I also need to figure this algebraic problem as well

9
-----
x+3

(+)

6

= 3
------------
x + 3

For the first one, combine the numerator so it is one fraction and then combine the denominator so it is one fraction.
you will get
4/3
-----
4/7

when doing division with fractions all you have to do is flip the 2nd fraction and multiply, so you get
4
--
3

(x)

7
--
4
the 4s cross out and you get

7
--
3

For the second question make sure both values on the left have the same denominator.
you get
9
---
x+3

(+)

6x+18
--------
x+3
That gets you
6x+27
--------
x+3

(=)

3
----
X+3
Multiply both sides by x+3 and you get 6x+27 = 3
solve for x
6x = -24
x = -4

The first is done and I like that solution...but I can give you a different way to do it.

Simplify the numerator: 4/3
Simplify the denominator: 4/7
ANd just divide: 4/3 divided by 4/7 = 4/3 * 7/4= 7/3

Here is the second. Get a common denominator..in this case it is x + 3 and multiply every term by it: This will get rid of the fractions and leave you with a linear equation.

9 + 6(x +3) = 3
9 + 6x + 18 = 3
6x = 3 - 27
6x = -24
x = -4

ANother way to do it is to bring the 9/(x + 3) to the other side and simplify to:

6 = -6/(x+ 3)
Cross multiply: 6x + 18 = -6
6x = -24
x = -4

1) (1 + 1/3) / (1 - 3/7)

What you want to do is multiply the top and bottom of the (big) fraction by the lowest common denominator. This will reduce this complex fraction (i.e. fractions with a fraction) into a simple fraction. We multiply the top and bottom by 21.

21(1 + 1/3) / 21(1 - 3/7)

Distribute the 21 over each term.

(21 + 7) / (21 - 9)

Simplify

28/12 = 7/3
