Any more they are getting worse. Who's better Home Depot or Lowes?

Lowes' customer service is better by far. The following is my recent experience with home depot online...

I stopped going to the home depot stores a long time ago, but when I was shopping online for christmas presents a month ago, home depot had the lowest price for a log holder that I wanted. I purchased that along with another item along with 2 day shipping to make sure I received it in time for christmas. The other item was delivered as promised. The log holder was never delivered, eventhough their website showed that it was shipped and delivered. After getting the run around from home depot, I called the shipper (which was fedex). Fedex stated that only 1 item had been dropped off for delivery. After I informed home depot of this they stated they would need to contact the shipper by email to confirm that this information and I would have an answer within 48 to 72 hours.

They also let me know that they would not be refunding the shipping fee I paid for the expidited shipping in a credit to my credit card, they said that it is home depots policy to refund shipping fees as a home depot gift card!

After 2 weeks of calling and getting the same answer "they were waiting to hear back from the shipper", I received an email that the item was on back order until march of 2007. I accepted this because I at least knew the reason it was never shipped and now had a delivery estimate of 3 months... Then 2 days later they sent me a return confirmation email that stated the refund had been processed. Luckily they refunded the item cost and shipping for the item to my credit card.

I don't mind that there was an error with my order. I just can't stand this companies poor customer service, communication skills, how they handled the situation and overall stupidity!

I think both stores have merit. As stated by a few people Home Depot usually has lower prices on most things and Lowe's typically has a larger inventory. Home Depot is trying to improve on their selection and customer service. All home depot receipts give you an opportunity to fill out a survey. Just input the login and password then fill out the survey honestly. That is the only way they will improve.

Home depot is usually a little cheaper but Lowes has a better selection. Sorry that you had a bad experience, have not had any at either store.

Sorry that bad thing always happened to you at Home Depot. However, you need to think about this situation better. If it no competition then your price would be higher. I think we need to override our bad day by maybe override it. Maybe call the story and complain. It a lot better than tell the world about it so the store lost business and might have to close. There go your price, up in the sky. I think I will feel sorry for the good workers there if they have to take this heat. Can you please have a second thought of your free advertise?

speaking as a homeowner not a construction worker - I'll try Lowe's or Ace hardware store that are near me. The Home Depot near me is in Freeport NY and they go out of their way to make the store consumer unfriendly. I wish that Home Depot store would go OOB.

100th time this has been asked...home depot is set up for the contractor or home owner to do their own work...and is not set up flashy or with aisles and shelves that look like a dept store...
and for this set up HD has way more selection than lowes...and cheaper..I know i am a contractor and home owner and use them both daily......I get uspet with Lowes cause they hire people who dont care...and dont know anythng about what they are selling(yes some at HD also are like that also) Lowes sells items (for example: electrical fixtures then doesnt sell the needed tubes or bulbs or even the mounting devices needed to use the fixture they sell! I end up every time going back to HOME Depot to buy the bulbs that Lowes doesnt stock...even tho they sell the light fixture they dont have the bulbs....sounds stupid doesnt it? Ive complained many many times) similar occurances with the plumbing itmes and also furnace repair area..Lowes is set up to attract women...period...they have a few extra attractions and look neater overall but in reality they dont have as i said even items that are needed to use with other items they sell...and they are NOT cheaper overall...
couple examples i note are in plumbing supplies valves are for the SAME item much cheaper at HD same for paint and silicone sealants..as well as many other items such as lumber...
