Was Julie Andrews really originally going to be cast as Miranda in "The Devil Wears Prada?" I agree that Julie pretty much rocks, but I think they made a wise decision choosing Meryl Streep. (if this was truly the delimma.) Julie was great with Anne Hathaway in the Princess Diaries, but I think if they would've starred Julie in this movie, audiences would not have responded as well. So, is this rumor true?

I dont know if it is true but I agree! I loved Streep in the movie! The only other person I could think of that could play this part was Andrews! I loved the movie. And if they would have chosen Andrews, I dont think that I would have responded the same way.

I really don't think so. I would have heard that, but I never did. Meryl Streep is very good in the movie. That rumor is basically a bunch of bullcrap.

I don't think she could make a scowl on her face as well as Meryl Streep. Julie Andrews is a sweet person, so it would be hard.

I would have enjoyed Julie in the role. By the way, I don't think I've ever seen Meryl in a movie role where she didn't cry, could this be a first?

she auditioned but meryl beat her to it. i do think that meryl was a better choice for the role of miranda becasue they needed an american with a lot of sass and i don't think julie would've been as good. she's awesome with proper roles like in the princess diaries but meryl has the new yorker attitude that was necessary for the film. however, i do prefer Julie over meryl.

i dunno if the rumor is true but i doubt it. meryl is perfect for the role. i love that movie (book was awomse too....i would check it out if you haven't already) but i dunno.
i love meryl streep sooo much. but julie andrews is good too but i think for this role, meryl wins by a landslide
