this is a perfect example of civic pride and how absurb it is. how could one possibly think that discrimination will in any way make their life better? people don't have the choice as to which country they're born in, so why should anyone be proud of their country, no matter where it is?
some may argue that it instills a sense of unity in a nation, a "community spirit". however, this ends up creating more division between nations and races; everyone having the childlike idea of "mine's better than yours".
just because you're born in a country and raised being told it's the best in the world (which i know happens a lot in the states, as my mom is an american), it doesn't make it true.
i can guarantee you almost every country is like this. nazi germany was. there was a great amount of civic pride, which made the fascist dictatorship more sustainable. the people were fed propaganda about how minorities were evil, and yes, the majority of them believed it.
the government of the united states tries to instill the same kind of civic pride, by making the country scared of "terrorists". these "terrorists" are usually just eastern indian people. i have heard more than one american tell me that they would be scared to go on a plane with a person wearing a turban. it's rediculous that this is becoming accepted in the mainstream.
i could go on for hours about the wrong doings of the government of the united states, but i could go on also go on about the wrong doings of every other government in the world. the point is that you cannot compare a nation to another, because each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses.
i live in canada, and i think it's a wonderful place to live. i don't think it's better than anywhere else though, because i haven't lived in other countries (besides the states), so i can't really judge.
by the way, i'm a socialist libertarian.
since this thread was one sided, and wasn't exactly intended for an intelligent discussion, i'm not even sure if you understood what i said. i feel it's worth saying anyways though.

I own very little that has the 'made in USA' on it. so economically i can't see it.
1 in 6 people in the world is Chinese. America comes nowhere near that.

As for the illusion. They only last so long. Historically it is a fact that empires crumble. America might not be an empire but crumble it will, sooner or later.

But being the biggest and best it is it will throw the biggest tantrum before Nasa figures out the Warp drive and ALL will be history and it won't matter no more who the biggest was.

I'm proud to be an American also. Our government is not perfect but it is the best in the world. Our judicial system is not perfect, but it's better than most. I still put my hand on my heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at sports events. Whenever I see a serviceman or woman, I thank them for their sacrifices. I vote and therefore believe I have a right to my opinions. I also believe that the reason we are the best country is because God gives us His grace. I enjoy the freedoms offered to me because I am an American and I also recognize that those freedoms were paid for by the blood of our military, not just in todays times, but especially by the WWI and WWII veterans. I love America and I am smart enough to know how very blessed I am to have been born in this country.

Of course I do. We are the most generous, compassionate and rational nation as well. No matter what our problems are currently (and we have many) there is no where on Earth that is a better place to live. That's why people wait years and years to come here legally. Think about it....what would happen if there was no USA? When destruction happens anywhere on the globe or evil tyrants are committing genocide who helps out EVERY TIME? US(ofA)

I am not a hater of America but I am a realist.

There are countries just as big as us with military and money like Russia and China. And the US is going bankkrupt. We are so far in debt from the last 7 years that we may be in real trouble soon. When we can not afford to pay our military a decent wage what will happend then? When we can not afford to buy more tanks, humvees and other equipment, what will happen?
And what will happen when we can not afford to fix this big equipment? Right now we can not afford the parts to fix many tanks sitting at bases around the US and even helicopters.
So, we borrow more money and buy new ones. We can not afford to keep this up.
A weak nation with no money is vunerable.
How long can we last?

The Hague, Netherlands. Home of my beloved World Court. Love The Hague better than the US. Peaceful and tranquil; no wars, everlasting peace.

anyways...its not how big we are..its how we use it...i love america and think that as soon as we have people, excluding liberals, hopping into inner tubes to float to cuba and france and china, then we might start becoming less than the best....
what makes us the best is the fact that we can get through a hard time and still all be americans ...except those damm illegals...even tho they secretly want to be american...
