People post that their neighbors are living high on the hog, driving new cars, and eating out every night, and they're on welfare.

I'd like to know which state this is going on in.

I do not know what the amount is, but whatever it is, it is 100% too much. There is no reason on earth that hard working people should be taxed to support people who are not working.

Without government aid, they would have to rely on themselves, or on voluntary charity. There would be a well deserved stigma about being "on the dole" and maybe they would get up off their butts and go to work!!

I am on disabilty and my ss/ssi check is now $644,, I get $30 in food stamps..enough to buy hot dogs for the month and a little milk., I am also on sect 8..if u consider that welfare. I PROMISE u I don't drive a new car nor do I live "high on the hog".. I eat out (fast food) once or twice a month.. If u are referring to the actual "TEA checks".. it's $162 month for 1 child or $212 for 2 kids. I have about $4 left at the end of EVERY month if nothing breaks (car).. I really live "high on the hog".. Why do u assume that they are "using" the system just because they drive a "as you say "new" car.. maybe it's not theirs.. How do u know they eat out every night.. I sacrifice a LOT for my internet and the few things I have..

In Washington state 1 parent 1 child gets $440 a month and $248 a month in food stamps provided there is no other income. I know of welfare recipients that are living high on the hog because they are scamming the system.

It isn't a matter of how much they are getting - some of it is how their expenses are counted.

In my state PA - if you lease or finance a new/newer car that you are making monthly payments on - that car isn't your's as the bank/loan company is holding the title. So that car/truck can not be counted as an asset of yours until it is paid in full and you have the title. I know people that just keep upgrading so they get a newer car every few years but never "own" it. There is a family down the street that both the husband and wife have newer cars 2000 -2003 that welfare paid the down paymnet on so they could "look" for work, and since he now works part-time the state gives him a gas mileage allowance.
Same goes for a house if it is mortgaged.

Me- I have a 1995 that I paid for , couldn't get a loan , I buy gas to get myself to work and if I don't have it I got to walk or stay home.

In Ohio. the check for SSI is $603 a month..it goes up about $5-25 a year for inflation; however, they take about 80% of that back by raising one's rent and cutting food stamps...so it essentially never goes up even though food, gas, utilities, etc does.

People forget that most people on SSI are disabled and sick from things like serious mental illnesses, cancer., diabetes, paralysis, etc and they are treated like the old welfare recipients used to be...with a lot of hatred.

so much for loving the least among us..

I know a woman who is living pretty well in Maine and I have no doubt she is scamming the system. She has a son that supposedly has autism and she even found out what forms she can get the most in benefits from and told him to act like that for therapist so they will diagnose him. From what I heard, Maine is an easy state to scam. You can even get on disability if you have a drinking problem.

While not directly on point, who lives "high on the hog" on 600 some odd dollars a months for an adult and a child.
Yes, there are folks, a relatively small number, who defraud the system. But receiving a pittance to try to keep oneself and one's child in food, clothing and shelter is not living high on anything.

An individual can live in public housing or Section 8 and be a millionaire....IF they happen to win the lottery. Only thing they have to do is give Section 8 or PH their cut of the check, which is 20% in my state.

No one is getting rich off of welfare. Drug dealers and illegals use it as supplemental income.
