Dude, the cheapest HP for your dollar is to stroke the motor out to 383. You can still use the stock heads and cam, they are plenty good for this application. You will have to take the motor to a machine shop to get the stroke and boring and the block work done so a 400 crank will fit. Scat makes a kick *ss crankshaft. Some rods and some pistons and new wrist pins and you are set. With stock cam, no computer adjustment is needed. You may even by able to go one step up over you stock cam without having to mess with the computer. Rods and pistons aren't too expensive, and the machine shop shouldn't charge that much either. The stock exhaust on the Z06 will be able to handle the flow and the stcok throttlebody and injectors can all be left alone. 383 stroker motors are torquey and powerful. You won't be disappointed. It will be faster, have more torque and HP and still have the original motor.

Okay, dollar for dollar, changing to K&N air filter is the cheapest bolt-on horsepower you can get. Beyond that, low-resistance exhaust would probably be the next best dollar for dollar. Better intake and Exhaust manifolds, modification chips, etc. The issue with Nitrous is that (although with a Z06 it may be fine) you have to be sure that your Rings are capable of handling the extra pressure, as well as your oil pump. Unless you wanna take it to a professional mod shop, I'd stick to the bolt on stuff.

Well if you want to upgrade I have some parts for sale that will have you beating the new Z06's if you can drive. Cheapest is N20 (not N02) but has a lot of maintenance ( refilling bottles, keeping proper bottle pressure, all the safety requirements), for LS motors you can get a lot out of a set of longtubes, and a good tune. If you have an automatic, get a torque converter. Also a VERY good upgrade to the LS cars is a nice set of drag radial's on the back.

If you want a torquer 2 cam, some patriot gold springs, N20, Longtubes, aluminum flywheel (if 6 speed), 36 lb injectors, I have these for sale and they will work for your car. You will need to tune your car with some of the parts listed above. Email me fire_bird_44@yahoo.com

Here's a free, though my not be legal, solution. Take the governer out. It's the thing that limit a vehicles top speed. This won't give you more horsepower, but it'll mke the car faster that's for sure! Other than that, you could get new headers and a new exhaust system. You could also look into a cold air intake system.

Reduce weight as much as possible, turn off the AC. No lie.
After that you have to pile on the bucks, probably starting with a low restriction exhaust, performance ECM, upgrades to the fuel delivery system. Any significant HP gains afterwards and you are in racing money territory and the sky is the limit.

Nitrous Oxide will always be the best way to get lots of power for a minimal outlay, but if you mean conventional tuning, start with the good old air filter and exhaust combo, plus a remap/rechip of the engine management. Beyond this, it's time to get yer wallet out...

start by putting on a cold air system such as a KN air filter and then put on a set of headers and a borla exhaust, you should pick up about 25 to 30 hp. and then if you really want to get it on change the rearend gearing to a 3.73 gear.

Less restrictive air intake and exhaust, smaller pulleys on the a/c, alternator etc., and get a different chip that would give you more ignition advance and more fuel.
