One of my female mollies is hiding under the plants, breathing very slowly, pooping alot, and not moving much. It is like she is in a trance. She is just sitting on the bottom, only moving to run off other fish and to turn around? No smart a**es please

I have a breeder box but when she is in it she get really stressed out so I'm just going to let her have her fry in the tank. there is LOTS of plants for them to hide in.

I know she is pregnant. All sexually mature female mollies that have been exposed to a male in the last 6 months are pregnant. What I want to know is she in labor?

It sounds like your molly is indeed in labor and you should put her in a breeding tank with plenty plants so when she gives birth her fry will be safe from her also because she will eat them also. And after she has finished giving birth you can return to the tank with the other fish just make sure she is done with giving birth before hand.

If you look at her stomach and it's big and there's a large black spot, and she's been getting fatter, she's most likely in labor. Move her into another tank with A LOT of plants by herself. The plants will protect the babies from getting eaten cuz the mom will be a cannibal.

She might be getting ready to have babies, but she also might be suffering from water quality problems. Are the other fish acting normally? It's always a good idea to check water when any of the fish begin acting strangely.

yes, mine do the same thing. but you need to know that her chasing the other fish is for protection not the fry. she has no maternal instinct and runs a high risk of mommy molly having fry on the menu!

sounds like she's about to give birth...don't move or excite her --just keep things calm...If you have lots of plants in the aquarium that will help save the babies from being eaten...otherwise you can use the material(sorry I don't know what it's called--they used to make crinoline type skirts out of it---sorta a plastic mesh )or even a couple of unused plastic pot scrubbers in the water to give them a place to hide for a while.

she could be pregnant but if you want all the fry to servive you should put the female in a breeding box/trap.

about two weeks later.

:-) Sounds like it to me. They become very hostile, so they can protect their young, and the pooping clears the system allowing more space for the births to happen...just like in humans.

Sounds to me as if she is in labor! Do you have one of those fancy (cheap) nets that you can put her in to protect her and her babies from the other fish???
