It seems like alcoholics always have red faces. My friend has a red face all the time, even while not drunk, and when he gets drunk, it gets so red that it looks purplish.

and actually older drinkers will have permanently red noses etc.
alcohol opens the capillaries near the skin. i think over time they break and that's why the permanence. it's a physical impact of alcohol.

Not all alcoholics have that problem; for every one that you see with the redness there are 25 more with no redness at all. It has shown up in studys around the world that for every 100 people that 25% to 35% out of the 100 has some sort of alcohol or drug related problem.

Alcohol can dilate the blood vessels and capillaries in the face, and elsewhere, as well. That's why frequently in old cartoons drunks were depicted with red noses. Alcohol also can cause esophageal varices---varicose veins in the esophagus, and many other complications. It causes brain, kidney and liver damage, as well when used in excess.

because like most things after a while it starts to seep through your pores. thats one of the side effects
