What type of 'rock' do you mean? Like Rock'n'Roll or Cold Play or something in that order? Nonetheless, here's my ideas!

Go with a '70s rock festival theme.
If ya don't mind getting a few people involved, and provided they'll help; ~~~ get a bunch of newspaper and make a giant ball out of it. Then spray paint it gray. You could make a few of them. There's your rock! But, have some non-toxic cans of spray paint around so people can put grafitti on it during the party! Ya need to be able to trust your friends not to be painting up the house! Go with the Rock Festival Theme. Have a table set up for face painting, a bunch of bubbles and different wands for cool bubble shapes, black lights and possibly strobes, put up some black-light velvet posters, lots of incense burning, have hoola-hoops, glow stix, candles, etc. Get a couple bean bag chairs, too! And don't forget the Lava Lamps!

Encourage your friends to dress up in the era that you are wanting to go with. E.G.; long-haired wigs for guys, headbands, bell bottoms, tie-dyes, etc. Maybe even go with the idea that everyone dress up as their favorite Rock Star! And of course, the groupies, too! You can go to some cool websites and snag a cool psychedelic drawing and use that as your invite poster. Just download the picture then use your computer to overlay the info on it.

Living in a small town can lead to problems cuz the word gets out fast and EVERYBODY shows up - meaning the riff-raff as well as all your friends! So, be careful and appoint some of your 'larger, tougher' friends to be security. Let them be the 'bouncers! Don't let just anyone that shows up to come in. And tho' alcohol maybe fun, it is usually a disaster when incorporated into a big birthday party. All it takes is for one or two idiots to get drunk and ruin your whole night. Be firm on it!

Hopefully you will be able to have it outside, as you are able to do so much more. If you are going to have a band, make sure it doesn't get too loud to the point it pisses of any neighbors. The cops can ruin your night, too!

Anyway, have a great time and be sure that someone records it all! It will be definitely something you will want to look back on!
Have Fun!
