You are probably better off getting one at the store than making it. I know what you mean, at the high school level they do use a tee for field goals. To get the wood, measure, it, and cut it, etc is a hell of alot more trouble than getting one already made.
Perhaps you could ask a gym teacher or a high school coach where they got theirs.

Not trying to be mean, but if you go to a sports store, like Play It Again Sports, ask for a kicking block. If you want to make one, they can be anywhere from 1-2 inches thick. A simple way to make one would be to get a block of wood about 4x4, one inch thick. Good luck!
