This question isn't answerable without more information. You need a topic sentence for an essay, I assume, about homosexual marriage-- but what are you writing about: What is your theme? The topic sentence describes to the reader what the essay will describe, i.e., the theme of the essay.

Maybe you want to write about the politization of homosexual marriage-- the way republican politics have taken it out of nowhere hurting no-one and made it sound like it is somehow threatening the country, forcing everyone to have an opinion on a very uninteresting topic in order to divide the country. For instance, a topic sentence:

Homosexual marriage was hurting no-one and now it's hurting everyone, thanks to rotten politics.

Since I don't know the specifics of your paper, that's impossible to say. But here's a technique to come up with a good topic (thesis) sentance.

Sit down with someone and tell them (casually--not in a formal way) what your paper is trying to say. That will "set the stage." Then have your listener pay close attention while you tell them--in your own words--what the three main points of your paper. That is the basis of your topic (thesis).

Then write out what you've said--starting with the format: I"Same sex marriage is (A) because (1), (2), and (3). The (A) is the main point or conclusion of your paper, the 1-3 are the main points that support (A). Once you've got that, you can fiddle with the wording so it flows smoothly from your introduction. One more hint--the main body of your paper can then e divided into 3 parts--each dealing with one main point--and your conclusion section will be just bring all three together to show how they lead to/support your conclusions.

BTW--its better not to ask for a topic sentance--the goal of such assignments is to learn how to do it yourself. It doesn't help you develop that skill if someone does it for you. :)
