It gets easier the more you do it. You will get more comfortable over time.
However, I do want to point out that some people choose not to drive. They walk, take taxis or bike to their destinations. I know a couple of people like that. However, it severely curtails your freedom.
Perhaps you could just try to drive in low stress situations until you get more comfortable. I was afraid at first, too, but now it is pretty automatic and not very stressful. If I have to drive in places I am not familiar with, it gets a little more stressful for me.
Good luck to you!

You are smart to be scared. Not to the point where you can not drive but, it's probably a good thing. Having some fear behind the wheel will make you more alert. Just remember this, you passed drivers ed. so you know what to do. Just get in the car and do your thing. Relax. Plus, in most accidents there are no fatalities.

You are right to be a bit afraid as driving a car is a very big responsibility. It sounds to me that you realize this already and this is a good thing. I suggest don't drive in a lot of traffic and drive short distances until you become more comfortable. My Dad used to take me to the school parking lot after hours (weekends mostly) and had me practice. Sometimes I would pick up speed and then brake quickly ( to learn the feel of braking) as an example. I had one disaster with my father at the grocery store parking lot going to buy something in the store. I parked on side of store away from cars... instead of braking I accelerated and drove smack dab into a brick planter connected to the store. ... so he then had me practicing braking and accelerting a bit more till I really got it down... The practice in the parking lots helped me. Do you remember when you first learned to ride a two-wheeler bike? You will become less scared with time... still tho always respect the car- it is a dangerous machine unless handled properly.

You should make a print out of this question with answers, as you will get a kick out of years from now.

It's actually healthy to be scared at first. That means you are aware that you need practice and that driving is not a brainless task.
With more experience, you will become more relaxed and confident about your ability to drive. If you drive around empty parking lots, or on country roads or city roads that aren't at all busy, you'll get more comfortable with the car. Once you feel you have great control of the car, you'll be able to concentrate much better on what is going on around you. It's very important to be aware of other cars and other drivers.

I'll bet after you've put another 20 hours into actually driving the car, you'll wonder why you were so scared! Good luck!

I feel the same way but I'm not worried about me loosing the wheels, I worry about someone other drivers. I finely figured out why,I don't like traffic. If it's a small town with no traffic then I'm OK

Drive around with someone else in the car for a while, it helps. When I first got my license 9 years ago I was the same way, I didn't hardly drive at all.

okay, i just posted this answer not even 5 minutes ago, but I'll keep it short: go to a driving school. the instructor will have a brake on his side of the car, so wrecking it is virtually impossible.
