You can tell your boss you have an important appointment at 10am and need a few hours away from the office. You don't have to tell your boss what the appointment is for.

Missing interviews is a big mistake, especially when you don't bother to call ahead of time. Your current boss probably knows that your situation is about to change, and that you're looking for a real job now. You need to be assertive and outline for your boss how this is going to happen and gain his/her agreement to your needs. You should continue to be responsible at work, but you should take interviewing VERY seriously. It's the next step in your "real" life, after college. In the end of your second paragraph it is unclear what happened. Do you mean your boss interfered with the interview? Just a suggestion: you might ask someone to proofread your writing for thank you notes, cover letters, etc. Good luck.

In such a case, I think you will have to do the interview, and come in to work late. I would call in at about the time when you would be doing the morning commute, and say that you have some problem that will delay for few hours. You would have to make up something, trusting that you have no choice but to do so, and hope for the best.

I would tell your boss nothing about seeking alternative employment elsewhere..period end of story...I would actually leave a message with some tactful and tasteful acting portraying that you are ill, and wont be able to make it. If you cant call, wait until you were supposed to be there like an hour before hand and then give them a call, and say "I am so sorry *cough* *cough* I slept right threw my alarm.."

See if you can switch a shift with someone. That rocks the boat a little less than the other options :-)

Call in sick, or say you have a family emergency. If you show up for work is going to be harder for you to lie.

go to work, tell your boss you need personal leave for something that's come up. you could say it is a short-notice appointment.
good luck.
