People should be able to marry whoever (whomever?) they want, as long as everyone is a consenting adult. Who gives a crap.

There is a world of a difference between 2 same-sex partners marrying and polygamy.

It's the very same difference between 2 straights marrying and polygamy.

So your comparison is good for shock value, but it's not very logical.

You're correct that the state has traditionally forbidden both gay marriage and polygamy. Gay marriage has been illegal since the mid 1990s (Defense of Marriage Act) and polygamy has been illegal for about 145 years (shortly after the Civil War we began enforcing polygamy laws nationwide).

Before that, gays got married, but lacked a civil certificate of marriage. Polygamists have been entering marriages with multiple wives for at least 3,000 years or longer.

The system of justice in the U.S. will not see the connection you are trying to make between gay marriage and polygamy. They are viewed from separate places in our laws.

However, we do discriminate against polygamists, as we also discriminate against pedophiles.

The Supreme Court has not found a Constitutional Right to be a polygamist, nor a right to be a pedophile. But the Court has found a reason for gays to be treated equally under the law, as straights are treated.

The High Court has also forbid the mistreatment of people for being simply being gay. As far as I know, we still put people in jail for being polygamists or for being pedophiles.

So according to the Supreme Court, it would be correct to discriminate against polygamists and pedophiles, but not against gays.

Polygamy is illegal. Pedophilic acts are illegal. Gay sex, gay relationships and gay families are commonplace and ALL LEGAL in America (Thank the Lord!). So your comparison is not logical.

Consequently, it is only a matter of time until the courts find that depriving gays of civil marriage is purely in support of religious ideas, and not equal treatment under the laws of our democracy.

It might be a moot point by then, because, in spite of the amendments passed in 21 states, the next generation of voters overwhelmingly support equal rights for gays.

So eventually these amendments will be repealed, and it will happen soon, since the majority that voters against gay rights is over 65 yrs. old already.

Extreme Right Wing Christians who cling to hatred of gays 'in the name of Jesus' already look as silly as Christians who clung to Segregation in 'the name of Jesus.'

Nobody remembers the pastors who predicted the 'world would end' if blacks married whites, but everyone remembers the warriors of that movement, like Rosa Parks.

If you define marriage as being between two people, then it isn't discrimination to deny polygamous marriage, because marriage and polygamy are two completely different things.

I strongly believe that anybody (since we all pay taxes) should be able to make contracts (much like the marriage contracts that share the lives and assets of a couple) with whomever they want, and they should be upheld by the government. That would include three people who want to share their lives together, or any number of people, really. But to call it marriage would be to change the name of the institution by changing the number of people, so no.

Well here in Utah down in south Salt Lake we have a community called Bluffdale. It is a well know polygamists area. There is never a crake down and of course polygamy is against the law.

ok then i will enter your stupid game and answer your stupid question by saying: ok then dont deny the polygamists the right to marry two or more...
Why are you looking for absurd reasons???
it could have been more original to say why dont we accept marriage between you and a cow (it would be a good thing since both of you will share the same IQ level)

No...it's fair IF we allow everyone the opportunity to marry the ONE person that they love and want to spend the rest of their lives with.

Yet another Faulty Logic rationale.

So, not allowing gays to marry ISN'T discrimation? Wow! When you get your head out, take a DEEP breath, your brain will need it.

Yes, it would be most definitely...but...let's not confuse these two different issues. Shall we?

No, this is not a stupid question as others have called it, but they really are two seperate issues and shouldn't be confused. One issue is still concerning "two concenting adults" and the other is concerning "more than two."
See the difference?
