well, do you think to much while going to sleep?
i think the only way to go to sleep faster is to read for 15or 20 minutes
and after that just strait go to sleep.

Avoid heavy studying or reading before bed. Don't sleep with the TV on! Total darkness is best if possible. Try to have the same bed time every night, even on weekends. I like to eat something warm with milk before I go to bed, it helps me get to sleep. Also, my mom gave me this tape you can listen to that has a hypnotizing beat that makes your brain relax and makes you go to sleep. I did it once and it works well. But I don't know the details sry, maybe you could look for something on the internet? I also heard it's good to have 10 minutes of relaxing before you go to sleep. Like don't just come back from the movies and go to bed, take like 10 minutes to calm down.

Take some Benadryl. I do that if I ever have trouble sleeping or am too stressed to sleep or something. Although technically it is a drug, it's nothing compared to a tranquilizer, over-the-counter or prescription. I wouldn't do it all the time though. If this has been going on for a long time or if you keep having trouble, I'd see a doc.

Milk before bedtime. Maybe some melatonin from the health food store. Eat turkey slice for the triptophanin now and then.

Take a relaxing bath or shower before bedtime.

If you go to bed and sleep is still illusive, get up for an hour and read.

If this fails, see your doctor.

I too live in a terrible "non-sleep" world!! I take unisom almost nightly. I hate taking it, but if I don't I will be up until 2:00am and have to get up at 5:00am.

I just ask this questions recently, was told to work out like mad, take care of anything heavy on my mind, warm milk, melatonin, no caffeine.... the list goes on!! Melatonin works pretty good, but that is probably a med to ya!!

Good luck and sweet dreams!!!

I had looked at this for some part of my degree work, read this -

5-HTP and serotonin are natural chemicals produced by our bodies to help regulate appetite, mood, sexual desire, sleep patterns and stress levels. These functions are badly affected if serotonin levels in the body are reduced.

Serotonin levels can become too low because of emotional or physical pressures, imbalanced diet, nutritional deficiencies, insufficient exercise (aerobic and muscular), alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. This results in sleep problems, depression, anxiety, eating disorders such as cravings, weight problems, restless leg syndrome, migraines, fibromyalgia, and low pain threshold.

Supplementing your diet with 5HTP helps to increase and maintain the levels of serotonin in the body and gives relief in many ways.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Search for 5HTP and you can read more information yourself.

What I do is (if I can't and know I can't get to sleep) rest my eyes and just think of a pleasant situation in your minds eye. Don't think about sleep or tell yourself to sleep, as this has the negative affect (personal advise).

Hope this has helped a bit, if not you'll be asleep by the end of this answer :+) lol

take a hot shower just before bed. Make sure you turn off the tv, radio, computer, etc. (electrical items leave energy in the room) Relax before bed doing nothing at all, clear your mind of everything--work, wife, kids, dog, parents, bills. This usually helps me.

A nice warm bath, a glass of hot milk with honey and a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow. Sorted.

G'night everyone!
