I think the execution date was rushed and the ceremony itself was not held in the dignified manner it should have been. Although it was Saddam, he still deserved a decent execution without being insulted in his last minutes.

EDIT: Hey! You people who posted after me! yeah, thats right... all you. Newsflash!! The US was NOT responsible for his executioin or trial. All was done under Iraqi law and therefore the US had nothing to do with the execution. Several top US officials have said so themselves that they would have handled the execution differently, but it was ultimately up to Iraq (and it is supposed to show the democratic proceedings that now occur there).

I think, like his methods or not, he kept the sectarian tensions in Iraq under control for a long time, and his country managed to prosper under his rule despite years of sanctions.

We have not had any success either in controlling the county ourselves, or fielding a government that can do so. There have been a lot of people killed, and more are dying every day, which makes Saddam's methods look--well, like we're basically doing the same thing he did, but with far less success.

I don't question that Saddam had a lot of blood on his hands. So do we, now...and I wish it had stayed on his hands; that our country's integrity, our honor, and our soldiers had not been sacrificed for such a purpose. I wish we'd left Saddam alone; that he was still alive, in power, and that we were clean of this grotesque war.

Saddam is dead. Good. The world is a better place because of his absence.

Considering his ruthlessness and bloodthirsty mass murder orders...plus his rape rooms etc., I think his death should have been by stoning in a public square by the families of his victims, or some other fairly painful and slow death...

Hanging is too swift and much too merciful....

A rush job by a desperate government giddy with power and trying to cover their tracks and get revenge on the other segment of the population.

Well, I immediately felt sorry for him, but only for a second, and then I remembered all the people he ordered killed without warning, and then I thought, justice.
