I have had numerous problems with Norton and McCaffrey. Since I switched to Avast which is free I have had NO problems whatsoever. I know one person who has used this free program for 8 months with no problem and he is on the web constantly. Any comments??

Yes, I have used it but switched back to the Symantec suite. Avast has a good, but not great, anti virus program. The security suite left a lot to be desired, because if you did not use Outlook as your email client, then you were totally unprotected. The latest suite from Symantec was rated number 1 at PC Mag http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2023974,00.asp As far as free antivirus apps go, Anti-vir and avg are good, with anti-vir being tops (better then Avast too).

I love Avast! I've used it for about 4 years now and I've never had any problems with 4 puters on the net! Some day i would like to try the Avast Pro but HEY! I'm cheap and I love FREE!! hehehe

I use avast, and I like it. It takes less resources than nortons and mcafee. Avast will also allow you to do a boot scan, so it scans before everything is loaded which allows for easier removal. It also does auto update and you can get it for free. Just give your email address and they will send you an activation key.

I like Avast. It's pretty unobtrusive, even during updates, and it's polite enough to check for full-screen apps like games before popping up alerts. AVG works pretty well too.

Anti-Vir annoys me with update windows and please-buy-the-advanced-version messages. And I won't even touch Norton/McAfee and the like with a ten-foot electric cattle prod.

Yes,

I install it for all of my customers. It is the bomb. It is free and works well for antivirus.

It does not have all the other crap that most antivirus programs have.

Some people don't like it because it does not have any anti spyware or anti-spam. Well, there are plenty of free programs out there without having to purchase an all in one package.

Windows Defender
Ad-Aware
ccleaner

Avast is pretty good.

AVG Antivirus is also free and rated much better.
