It's probably easier to understand if you said "Many kinds of help are available." It might sound better to say: Various forms of assistance are available.

It's a plural form because by saying "is" there would only be ONE kind of help available. Because you're saying MANY, it's more than one, therefore "Are" is the correct form.

or you could change it to "There is a lot of help available."

"There are various amounts of help available."

Instead of "There is. . ." it should be "There are. . ." You have to make the the verb agree with the subject.
