Boy, this sure is confusing a LOT of people. AVG is only cancelling support for their older version of AVG, which is 7.1. They have come out with a new free version, 7.5, which will be supported completely. So, just uninstall the old AVG and install the new one. Here's the link for that page below.

A great alternative would you to get Avira AntiVirus Personal Edition Classic, you can get it at www.free-av.com, or you could also get avast 4 home edition at avast.com. Both of them are free. But also you should know that AVG launched a new version(7.5) and it is supported.

McAfee is very good! It tells you if there is a virus and it can scan your computer to see if you have a virus. It also has a spamkiller. I have had a lot of good luck with it!
