If so or if not, why do you think that is?

Yes, I think it is related to the Rap music, and gangster type of talk they are trying to use.
Also they have changed the meaning of so many words, it's difficult to understand what they are saying to each other when you are listening.

I think in our CULTURE, what you call 'coarse words', have grown more prevalent. I remember when one could not say the word 'ass' on radio or tv. Now, you hear it all the time. That wasn't very long ago, either. Our culture has grown more 'relaxed' about 'bad' words. I find it enlightened. There really are no such things as 'bad' or 'coarse' words if you ask me. It's all about definitions. I wish people would actually focus on what is disturbing about our culture, which is violence and war. Not teenagers and their language.

Hell yeah it's more prevalent! (I hope you caught the joke in that.)

While I can't compare to the experiences of older generations since I'm a teenager myself, I still find it INCREDIBLY sad to hear kids probably no older than 7 swearing like sailors. I go to a catholic high school, and you'd be amazed at how many times you hear the word fxck in one day. If you look around you, many boundaries held together in the past are now being broken. Race-related, sexual preference-related, abortion-related, and many other things. I guess this is just another boundary being broken.

Probably certain words aren't considered to be as offensive anymore and so are used more openly. Apart from that I think it's just that swearing in general is more acceptable in public to most people these days. To an older person this might seem a lot worse than how it was when they were a kid. In short, what was rude 20 years ago isn't so rude today.

i don't think it's any more prevalent then 10 or 15 yrs ago. i think kids are raising themselves more now that there are more single parent homes, and less time is available with the kids. some parents just assume their kids know right from wrong. my kids used bad language at home occasionally, but were taught it is absolutely forbidden around young kids, and to be mindful of where they were at while they were horsing around with friends. there were definitely words/phrases i never used around them, and were not to be used. "f-word," etc. they were also not allowed to use put-downs or insults with each either. they got along very well as kids, and are still very close as adults.
hey, are you, big stan, and hagar related? lol. j/k

I have no clue. I've grown up around people cursing, including teenagers. I've only been living on this earth for close to 16 years, and so I don't think I can really answer this fairly.

Not really. I just think they are more disrespectful and do it in front of adults more. I am 34 and when I was a teenager we cursed constantly, but we didn't do it around adults, now teens have no respect for the most part.

of course it is. im 17 - imagges in the media today promote violence and "coarse language" is more acceptable. in the 1950s the language we use may have been seen as "obscene". now its just second nature.
