I have up to $70,000 to spend, and I don't want a gas guzzler (you know, I don't want a car that I have to pay that gas guzzler tax), but I want the fastest car with the best handling I can get for the money. What would you suggest. It doesn't have to be $60, it just has to meet the other criteria.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Im gonna second the 07 Z06. Will outperform the Audi, has more power and like stated above shouldnt have the gas guzzler tax if you buy it with the manual transmission.

2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. It has a 505 HP 7.0 liter V-8 and probably gives gives the best overall performance for the money. It WILL run with the Outtie in every category. You still don't have to pay a gas guzzler tax for these machines (see below). Some people don't like the Corvette, but the Z06 is a mean machine and will run with just about anything made that costs much more. It handles like it's on rails, acceleration is brutal and it still manages to get surprisingly good gas mileage as it meets the Federal requirements for mileage against displacement rules. The Viper does not. Hence you will have to pay the gas guzzler tax on a Viper.

here are a few suggestions:

Sedan: Mercedes E55/E63. The newer models have a normally aspirited 6.2 liter V8, the older models have a 5.4 liter supercharged V8. Mercedes makes an AMG version of its E class, and the car is ridiculous. 0 to 60 in about 4.5 seconds. Pretty amazing for four doors. You could probably find a used one for around $70,000.

Sports Car: The Corvette ZO6. Nothing can compete for sheer performance value.

Coupe: I would wait out the release of the new M3. BMW just released a 335 coupe, comes with a 3.5 liter- and it can hang with the current generation M3. Its scary to think what BMW will be able to do with the new M3 when it comes out late next year. I hear its going to be a supercharged V8.

i would get a caddy cts-v over the rs4 because it is 400 pounds lighter adn more torque but about 30 less hp and it is 15 grand cheaper so u could easily modify it to catch hp and the rest of the money could be for insurance and gas to burn
or u could look into the new 2008 ss vette
but trucks are also fun if i had that i would get a nice looking chevy duramax and put bully dog products into it my friend has one that is a low 5 second truck
good luck with ur choice

I'm going to second the vote for the Audi RS4.

It's a magnificent car that makes a fine daily driver and does lots of things extraordinarily well. Superb choice.

If I had that much money, I'd get an Audi RS4. 450 horses out of a German V-8..... that will run circles around any corvette or mustang.
plus it will handle better, has more luxury features, and looks completly customized when it rolls out of the factory.

audi rs4----a good choice, but if you want something with some old school styling and big muscle attitude, I would wait and get the camaro when it comes back out in 08. It will be available with the Corvette Z06 engine option. That would be classic, good looking, and fast!

Might just get a BMW M5 for that money, not sure. If you can, do - fits your criteria, and you can carry twice as many people along with you.

If you can get the speed limiter removed, you're looking at a shade over 200mph. In a comfy four-door saloon.
