in a word no. The cancerian will not be able to handle the flighty energy of the Gemini, nor the restlessness a Gemini often feels. Cancers are very stable and like uniformity where as a Gemini likes to always be on the go both mentally and physically.
Both are thinkers, and that's where the attraction will be, Gemini's love to be stimulated mentally as do cancerians. But Gemini's are often looking for the next big rush and can be very commitment phobic where as a cancer is looking for commitment.
They make great friends but as far as relationships, I don't think either would be able to stand each other for very long...

Solely based on sun sign astrology, no, they are not a match. Most Geminis have wandering eyes, and they're almost a little two faced. Cancers are far too whiny and need that sense of stability and commitment that Geminis can't give.
However, that is JUST based on sun signs. Compatibility using astrology is so much more than that. Ideally, you need to combine you and your partner's chart into something we call a synastry chart. www.astro.com has a great set of resources that allow you to create a synastry chart and interpret it. You can also use a site like Cafe Astrology or Astrology-Numerology to find out certain synastry aspects. There are many other things to take into consideration to find out if you are compatibile astrologically with another person. You may have a really strong Venus connection (Venus is the love planet), or your Ascendant may be his sun sign, which is a really good sign of compatibility. It's not all based on sun signs.

you didn't say if you were the Gemini or cancer...
cancer is a pretty devoted person there.
where Gemini's are flirtatious and flighty.
some may even two-time their partner.
hard to keep an hold a Gemini's attention for too long.
because they are so energetic an hard to please.

No they are not suppose to be but my bf and I are opposite signs and are just fine, so maybe astrology is crap.
