Because we don't want the younger generation to repeat our mistakes. We want them to be better.

I am sure kids now a days are a little bit more rebelious and off the wall then when old people were young. It was a different time and kids acted differently back then than the way they do now. Back when my grandma was a kid she didnt hang out at the mall for hours on end with this "I DONT GIVE A FLYING F*CK ABOUT SH*T" attidute and "IM ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS". People back in the day had manners and class. Times have changed, and I think older people are shocked and amazed that younger people act and behave the way they do. Family values were more enforsed and willing to be followed back in the day. I say this from a kid point of view because me myself am a young adult. (20's) and I even see a difference in how teens and kids act now a days then when i was 12,14,16,etc.... So for older people to think kids are out of line or even that they are shocked by behavior its cause the sh*t they see kids do wasnt the way things were for them at all, its a perfectly normal reaction for old folks to be shocked.

I don't always agree with what older generations have to say, but there is a lot of truth to them saying that younger generations are lazy. Hell, I'm 24 and my generation is lazy, but they seem to be getting more spoiled and lazier by the year. It's a shame to go to work and see 40 and 50 year old women moving faster and working harder than 18 and 20 year olds. It's a shame to see so many people my age not understanding how to earn and save.

Of course, parents don't seem to be doing much to teach good work ethic, so what can you expect.

The new generation are experimenting with new and dangerous things without thinking about the consequences. The older generation just thought it was cool to smoke or have a beer when our parents weren't looking or skip school without getting caught. It's too bad we have to monitor our kids on line or have a say who are kids hang out with.

My father used to have a saying: "Youth is wasted on the young." "Youth" has its own beauty. Maybe for some of the "older people" you are talking about, there is a kind of wistfullness behind the critical comments. Or maybe our memories are going south, and we don't recollect some of the stupid things we did when we were young. Or maybe we want you to avoid doing the same stupid things we did because we care.

Every generation criticizes the culture of the next one. Maybe they're trying to save them from their own mistakes. I've been honest with my daughter. My parents weren't with me.

They are trapped in a body that is painful and always tired. So they become angry. Everything around them bothers them, and they make it clear about their anger. So they have no empathy or tolerance for others.
