There will always be expenses involved in going to college, but its all worth it in the end! However, you do need to take responsibility in making sure you can afford it. If you really need money to pay for your own personal items, you should get a part time job. I know its hard to balance school and work, but its not difficult to at least work over school breaks. (summer, winter break, etc)

Definitely can do without some of these items ... and some can be found in discount stores at a CHEAPER price (don't just buy the name brands for things) ...

An old backpack is just as good as a new one ... and if you have an older small suitcase (or rolling flight case/child's rolling luggage) in the home .. just use that to transport your stuff back and forth from class.

Stamps -- most use e-mail nowadays. And the School Library has FREE computers complete with Ethernet already there ... so you don't need to pay for that either.

The textbooks costs can be saved by purchasing used books, and this is relatively CHEAP for a full course load. I can assure you that even though this Retiree went through her degree program several decades ago .. my Taxation Texts alone were MUCH MORE than this amount!

You can also always cooperate with your roomie and other girls to do your laundry together .. and that way, the costs are less, the washer can be run full, and there is a cost savings associated with that too.

Can you go with another student to the college that lives near where you do? That way you would save on the cost of fuel .. and the same with the food costs at the destination too.

Finally, purchasing gallon of water is a much better choice for Healthy in-between meals snacking ... and yes, I have that available .. and do use it.

You could do without most of that stuff- hangers, backpack (just use a pocketbook), stamps, dinner w/ family. Just bum some gas money off of friends and get your textbooks used from half.com or ebay. Anyway, that's really not a lot of money. I'll have a 3K bill and I'm still going to go.
