How do you cure your wintertime blues? I currently reside in the "great white north" where windchills can get to -32 below and stay there for DAYS! I have extream cabin fever I wont take the kids out in this weather but go damn near crazy being in the house all the time. People up here say "less people live here because only the strong survive" I say "its more likely because only the stupid stay" just this week we had over 14 inchs of snow in 2 days and have a 50% chance for more tonight

By the way I am orginally from Texas so anything below 65 is COLD to me. Currently I reside in ND just a few miles from the Canadian boarder.

If you have cabin fever, staying in the cabin is not going to help matters. You will have to venture out or suffer the consequences. Go to the Mall, the movies, or visit a friend. If you're not happy inside, you have to go out.

BY THE WAY - When the original answer was posted, you never mentioned where you lived. Just that you had cabin fever. If you are so unhappy in North Dakota...and who the heck blames you...then MOVE!!

I have the same problem every winter. I live in Texas where I don't have the extent of your conditions but still suffer from the winter blues.
> I turn on every light in the house
> I make sure to sit in the sun whenever it shines
> Draw up a budget now that allows you to save for a trip South during this time next year.

Plan your Spring gardens now - drawing them out, placing trees, flowers, veggies, and shrubs. Make new pathways, etc.

Hopefully some of these will help you.

I would keep a steady supply off.

Enough unspoilable foods(can, dry ceral, milk, noodles, beans, juices, fruits, ect) to last me 3 months ahead in case of emergencies.
Enough fuel gas(with a gas heater not requiring (but vented) electrical in the event my electricity went off) to last me 3 months.
Enough candles, and lamps to last me 3 months.
Enough batteries to last me 3 months in the event of loss of power.
Enough emergencies supplies such as bandades, cough medicine ect. alcohol disinfectives ect to last 3 months.
Enough battery operated items such as radio, cell phones, ect to last 3 months with cell service and utilities, and power paid in advance 3 months.
Enough books to last me 3 months. I can survive snowed in if I have plenty of foods and a good woman and a books.
Enough women to last 3 months. This is the most neccessary item in my life neccessary to survive anywhere.
Enough Books and lessons for kids if i had any in school:).
Enough power (standby emergency) to last to operate satelite, for internet and tv for 3 months. when needed)
Enough wook to last 3 months and a wood heater or two.
I've never been in the cold frozen northern waste lands but I think I could stay sane with all of these.
It would be a great time to relax and write . chat, and enjoy life. I would have to have lived there a long time before I would venture outside with 14" of snow.
