It's not that we're good at it, it's that we're severely disciplined.

How do you figure they're all good at math and science because of their race? Not all asian people are good at that. It makes me wonder if since you think this about Asian kids, I wonder what race you feel is the dumbest?

Some of these kids may have a disiplined upbringing. But then again I've seen schools where other races seem to be doing better overall than another. It's not about the race, it's about the family disipline in learning. Some families have it, some don't.

Wow, I'm suprised at the racist responses. I guess Asian people are smart, and everyone else is stupid, because thats what it sounds like people are basicially implying in here without saying it. I guess if your not asian, your family is too dumb to disipline their kids in competitive learning.

That is a common stereotype plagued upon the asian community along that we're all martial arts masters. I'm chinese and I seriously do not care or want revenge for iwo jima. It's just that we were raised to have good grades to then be applicable for awesome careers. My parents lived in a rural area of China and because of that, they didn't get much of an education so they just want my siblings and I to succeed at life. I'm not sure all asians are good at math and science (but I am, heheh)

They work hard.

They have a strong family unit and their parents support them, are intellegent and are scientifically minded themselves.

Finally, (and I hate to bring religion into this but here goes) they are not religiously minded. Religion seems to fight with science and makes people feel it is wrong to trust your own reasoning ability. (Religious people are trying to convince the public that the Grand Canyon in the USA is only 6000 years old because the Bible says the earth was created 6000 years ago so therefore the world can't be older than that. What bunk!)

Trust your eyes and ears. Believe it when you see fossils of animals that don't exist today and trust in science to be truthful. The Asians have no problem with this as they have a tradition of trusting science and not superstition. Non religious countries around the world are making great strides in science. Religious countries seem to feel guilty about even studying cell development as maybe something is being aborted.

Asian kids are more versed in science than they are in religious writings. It is hard for Christian American kids to compete with that as our children feel guilty for trusting their own eyes and ears. The Bible says.."Lean not unto your own understanding..."
In other words, keep being stupid. American children are mixed up and driving down the educational highway with their brakes lock on.

I imagine this a bit of a stereotype, since in the past I had an Asian foster son who was dyslexic and couldn't do math to save his soul, and I also know a family of three sons (Chinese-Canadian) who are all as arty as you can get-- one son is an award winning film-maker, one is an animator and one is a musician and teacher.

I think the excellent students quite often value education, as do their parents, are supported to do well, and work hard, with good discipline.

I agree with China Doll

We are severely disciplined and dedicated to the things we do.
Not only asians are good at math and science, and not all of us are.
Americans would be good at those things too if they were disciplined more but instead we're out partying when we should be studying.

Asian children arn't generally smarter that americans and other cultures. There heritage simply involves a greater amount of stamina and more effort is put into their work. In china there are less vacation however the schools involve more community service. Also, hight population leads to less spots in college so parents push their kids so hard and it gets passed from one generation to another.

Well in many Asian countries their school curriculum is very rigorous. Their school hours are longer and school is in longer than here in the U.S. and every part of their school day is structured. They mainly focus on math and science and that's why you see so many Asians excel in those subjects and fields. It doesn't have anything to do with race it has to do with their society.

This has nothing to do with being Asian. What it does have to do with is the Asian parents view on education and learning. The Asians Parents are very involved with their childrens EDUCATION.They stress family values and the importance of learning to provide yourself with a good life .
Has nothing to do with race ,just parenting skills.

I just read a theory on this the other day! Can't remember the source though, so this answer could be crap. But, this was the theory. It is supposedly due to their learning of language. The Eastern languages and the complex ability needed to learn all the characters (letters?) or something like that.
