One use that I know of is that you can use an attachment so you can plug an Ethernet cable into a usb port so you can use a wired Internet connection rather than a wireless one.

First, the web browser costs 500 points, or US$5.00. Second, the Wii doesn't support USB broadband devices. It can only get on the internet by connecting to either a Wifi network, or a wired LAN or ethernet-based broadband modem using the Wii's USB LAN adapter.

No doubt someone, somewhere has cooked up homebrew mods for the Wii. But as of now the USB ports do not function due to not having the required update.

Most likely this update will accomodate the launch of the Opera Web Browser's final version in March (the current one is only Beta, hence the lack of buttons) for things like a USB keyboard.

Two USB ports: The two USB ports, as you expect, offer the possibility of connecting the Wii with other electrical devices and expansions. Although the only use currently announced for the ports is a USB Ethernet Kit.
