First you need to see a counselor. I have had panic attacks for years now and I know that they can cause a lot of stress.
What I always do is try and get away from what is causing the attack. If you are at work, then go to the restroom and get into a stall and lock the door, or go outside for a few minutes. If you are at home go lay down or take a bath if it is possible.
Panic attacks can lead to other medical conditions if they are not treated. You need to be perfectly honest with the counselor from the start so they know what they are dealing with and can try and help from day 1.
Good luck.

And the person that said suicide, you totally suck and I hope that one day you have a panic attack and remember that somebody asked this question and you gave your answer.

In an emergency, if the person cant breath, USE A VENTOLIN asthma puffa. four puffs, four minute wait, four etc. Also get them to breath into a paper bag, it prevents hyperventilation. I went through a bad time when a panic attack was pretty much a constant occurence. I was shaking n dropping everything and i had constant asthma, could hardly breath. I was using my puffa, trying calming methods and even took calmative medication, but honestly nothing really worked until I took care of the actual CAUSE of the anxiety. As soon as I delt with the problem and came to terms, I could move on and all the symptoms stopped. but this is for long term problem obviously. some people have a condition and need to take medication to calm them down. some people take low dosage sleeping pills (on prescription) for this purpose. Short term you need to know emergency proceedures, especially just getting the person to breath!! (but not hyperventilate) slow calm breaths. Also getting them to lay down, decrease heart rate. putting them in a warm bath can relax the muscles.

Well, your for sure under too much stress, and experiencing too much anxiety. A body needs to expel daily. You are needing to seek therapy, and possibly get on a medication until you teach yourself to handle the problems. You may not even be aware of whats causing your body to act this way. If an attack comes on, you first need to slow your breathing down as much as possible. You could take a brown paper bag, and breathe into it slowly. This will help take the "rush" feeling start to go away. Try very hard to concentrate on something, to take away from the attack. As the mind seems to race. If you have Benadryl or something, take it, until you see a Dr. Believe me, you aren't going to loose it, it's just your body letting you know you have a plate full! I wish you well. Exercising also helps in between, it exhausts the body too. Good luck!!

I have panic attacks on airplanes and driving a car. I don't take prescription drugs for this as I don't like taking them and the ones I took before can be addictive so I started taking vitamin supplements that have really helped me they are.

B-Complex and Stress Relief Complex I have found these are the only ones that work for me. You can research these products on Shaklee.com

too painful to stand for long. it will eventually drive you to do something desperate. no need for that. because an doctor can prescribe clonazepan 2 mg. there are others and i am a little prejudiced because it stopped my panic attacks. i have heard that you need to give them up in six to eight months. i have tried all the others like ativan, valium and theis clon stuff helps me. i hope i don't get totally dependent but you will understand that you have to do something when the panics keep coming. you may have to see a shrink to get what you need. today shrinks do not analyze like loopy dr. frued and the others. that is passe. now they dispense pills and some actually help. good for the short term for sure. not feeling so hot now. gonna have one. decide whether you might be bipolar.

Since panick attacks are all mental, what I would do is start counting backwards from 100 to calm myself down. It sounds corny but works great. I also always keep a bottle of water around and when an attack occurs I drink very small sips and do the counting. This has helped me alot

Deep breaths and state of relaxation in a place with lots of fresh air helps. Counseling will figure out the roots of your problems and mental state. Remember its all a mental state, something that is really bothering you and you can't get it out of your mind. You need distractions like a hobby or meet new friends. You need to get away from this problem you have. Take professional help. Good luck.

I've found the best way is to take slow deep breaths and try to clear your mind. Sometimes concentrating on your breathing helps. Catching them right before they occure is the best way. Look for signs...racing heart, faster breathing. Good luck.
