I've heard that it could take up to a year before getting pregnant after the pill. What is the average time it takes women to conceive after the pill?

I just got pregnant after only having 1 period off birth control.

I used the pill for about 5 years, then switched to the patch (which I loved!!!!) for about the last year. Took off the patch and tracked when my first period came being off the patch (10/23). My first cycle off the patch was 28 days. I counted 14 days after the first day of my last period, which was 10/23/06 + 14 days = 11/6/06.

We pretty much tried for a whole week, from 11/3/06 - 11/9/06. And that's all we had time for for that month because we were busy moving, etc. Well, it worked! I'd estimated my next period to start 11/20/06. I took the First Response test on 11/16/06 and actually was able to get a very very very faint positive even that early.

But everyone's different. I can't vouch for those who tried for longer than 1 month because I don't know how often they were trying or if they were counting days to determine their ovulation. There are ovulation calculator calendars on a lot of baby sites that are very helpful, especially if your cycle is more than 28 days. Most my friends seemed to take a little longer. Even the OB called me Fertile Mertil. Good luck and HAVE FUN! ;) If you know what I mean. Enjoy "trying" while it lasts.

Oh and who knows if this helped or not, but after "the act" I'd lay there on my back curled up in the fetal position for about 10-15 minutes before getting up. You just never know if it works and what do you have to lose but 10-15 minutes. Nice to wind down anyways. ;)

It really depends.
If you were on the pill for 3 or more years then it might take you several months or even a year to conceive. It just all depends on your body.
You might get lucky and conceive in 4-6 months after getting off the pill. On average it takes any where from 8-12 months to conceive after getting off the pill.
The easiest time to get pregnant is the week before your period and the week after your period.
If you have regular periods it might be easier for you to conceive.
Good luck.

I wish there was only one correct answer. I myself just got off the pill in december and we are trying to conceive. I was on the pill for 3 years, but some women ovulate on a regular schedule right after they stop taking the pill. I took ovulation test like the whole month and im not even sure if I did ovulate. So it all depends on your body and how regular you were before the pill.

I think it varies depending on the person. My first pregnancy took me a year and I ended up getting frustrated and going to see a specialist to help me. Turns out I feel pregnant by myself between appointments, so it can take awhile but if it does, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are infertile or need fertility treatment. I am on my 2nd pregnancy now and it took me 8 months of trying. It took me ages to get my body back to normal after stopping the pill, but that's me and could be very different for other people.

It can really vary. Sorry, there is not an easy answer. But I can reccomend this:
stay off the pill without "trying" for 2 months. Keep track of your periods like you did when you were first getting them. Determine your cycle. Then you can "try" during the fertile days (every other days for the 5 or 6 most fertile days) and not worry about it the rest of the month....

good luck!
