Viruses aren't considered living organisms, because they can't reproduce or grow without a host. They're essentially some sort of shell with either DNA or RNA inside, and reproduce only when they enter a host. Bacteria, on the other hand, are considered living because they grow, reproduce, adapt to their environments, etc. without requiring the use of a host. They are also fairly simple in structure, although some can have other internal structures that viruses don't have. Another major difference is that bacteria can be combatted to some extent with antibiotics, while there are very few ways to combat a virus with drugs once it infects the host. Viruses are also extremely small, even more so than the smallest bacteria. I believe that both lack a nucleus and have a cell wall, but don't quote me on those last two.

Bacteria is a one-celled organism that lives on its own. A virus is a protein and is like a parasite it must have a living cell to survive and reproduce. Antibiotics treat bacterial infections and anti-virals treat viral infections. Viral infections are flu, common cold, Chicken Pox/Shingles, Bell's Palsy, and diarrhea is often caused by a virus. Bacterial infections can be very dangerous especially if sepsis occurs (systemic bacterial infection). The bacteria of the day to be concerned about is MRSA Methicilin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. This is the bacteria that is immune the commonly used antibiotics.

Bacteria are single cells containing DNA; viruses consist of a strand of RNA surrounded by proteins and can't reproduce by themselves.
Bacteria are considered to be living and can be killed by antibiotics; viruses are inert and unliving when not infecting a host, and antibiotics have no effect on them, but your immune system can recognize and deactivate them.

Antibiotics are the remedy for bacterial infections,and they don't respond to a virus. You can run a fever with both or either one of them.

Bacteria is alive and can live outside bodies.
Viruses cant live out side a body and they aren't alive.
