Shubunkins, fancy goldfish, and common goldfish are all the same species(Carassius auratus). i've actualy had a female shubunkin lay eggs and the eggs hatched but the only males were the fantails in my tank. after 6 months some looked like mom and others looked like dad. if you do have eggs wich are a mm. across and amber colored plus slightly seethough, they must be taken out of the tank and placed in a seperate tank untill they are an inch long. also male goldfish have white dots on there cheeks called tubercles.

Many of the livebearers can breed with other livebearing species. Guppies and Mollies can produce hybrids, but these tend to die young from birth defects. So can Guppies and Endler Livebearers. The offspring are even fertile in this mix. In fact, most of the Guppies sold as pure Guppies actually have Endler Livebearer genes somewhere in their family tree. The same is not true, however, of the Endler Livebearers. It might be better if you bred some of the other options, as there is some trouble now getting pure Endlers and it is very frowned upon to breed pure ones with Guppies. Swordtails and Platies produce hybrids as well, and the young are also fertile. To a much smaller extent than guppies, some Swordtails and Platies sold as purebloods are mixed. But the hybridization isn't nearly as much of a problem right now, I suggest you do this combo if you want to do hybrids.

a fantail and a shibunkin are the same species, both were bred from "carasius aruatus" a type of wild carp. If they are boy and girl they they can breed. Males in heat will have little white "pimples" on their gill covers(operculum). E-mail me to find out how to manually extract the eggs and sperm to fertilize in a location other than the tank where the parents are living.

I do know that Cichilds, no matter what specie, can interbreed.. Just like dogs, cats, etc. Does seem likely that he's either wanting a little bedroom time with her or dislikes her. As long as he's not wearing her down/stressing her out/nipping her fins it should be fine.
