We each want our own phone. We are both adults. We usually only call eachother and probably only need 400-500 minutes TOTAL between the two of us. MOST of our calls are to eachother... so if we could get a plan where calling eachother (or anyone on the network) didn't take any minutes... well that would just be great (and then we would only need at most 300 minutes between us, or less).

Any tips? Any good plans you know of? At least one of us will have to buy a new phone. I will for sure as my phone is shot. I don't remember what his service is but his plan (and my separate plan) are both over with.

Thank you!

neither one of us really talks on the phone, but we both need cell phones "just in case".

we don't need picture phones, text messaging, internet... nothing like that.

Hi,

I actually worked as a call center rep. for a telephone/cellular company. I think I really could help you make a well thought out informed decision, but I need more information. Your best bet may even end up being a pre-paid phone or using phone cards or something. The two of you average of 7-8.5 hours phone time combined or 3.5 - 4.25 hours each. How much additional time do you spend talking to other people that would make getting a cell phone a necessary thing?

Consider, getting a cell phone usually involves Activation $35 each phone, Phone $29.99-199.00, Monthly plan $29.99-69.99 plus or minus, Overage charges .15 to .35 cents per minute over plan, and taxes equal to 12-15% of total bill. You may get Activation or Free Phone deals, but plan rates, taxes, and overage should still be considered. Also, you may have to pay a deposit depending on the quality of your credit or if you don't even have a credit history.

Without knowing more, it almost seems as if a pre-paid phone ($19.99 & up) with a 1 year minutes package (around $100 for the whole year) that reserves that phone number for a year & lets you add minutes as you need them may be the best for you. Cell phone plans are great, but if a person is not a big talker or doesn't have other people in that network, there may be better options. Plus it eliminates bad feelings about overages or "That's not fair. I used 100 minutes and you used 800 in our 900 minute shared plan."

Just tell me anything else you can think of that makes you want a cell phone or think it is a good idea, and tell me more about how you plan to use it.

Best wishes.

You could each get one of the new T-Mobile plans, with the "My Faves" feature where you can pick 5 people who you can always call for free. It's probably not worth it to get a family plan, and probably not a good idea if you're just friends.

hi,

t-mobile has amazing plans.
it's free mobile-to-mobile (you can call each other for free), nights start at 9 and free weekends.
t-mobile is much cheaper than their competitors but my plan anyways has a lot less minutes (we have the 500 plan)
i dont think they offer the 500 plan anymore though.
the lowest plan has 700 minutes for $59.99 (two people) i think.

It will depend on the phone you want and the plan you need. A basic phone deposit is not much. An iPhone deposit will be a minimum of $500.

Verizon has good plans. I have a prepay plan and that might also work out for you.

Oh, dear. Please don't. You are endangering your credit and your friendship. This almost never ends well. Best of luck to you.
