I'm assuming you mean "going to court," & if I'm right, & you really were guilty of "imprudent speed" you'll still have to pay the fine, UNLESS the officer who ticketed you doesn't show up. (They usually do.) If you have anything VALID to say in your defense, the violation may be reduced. Traffic "School" is another matter. It can be your best option if this is your first offense, & you don't want it to go on your record. Depending on your choice, (as above), BE PRESENTABLE, concise & civil! Judges simply HATE diatribes that are irrelevant to the law, & you might be surprised with the "psychological" impact! Much luck!

Boring and painless. You get there at the appointed time and then sit, and sit, and sit while they call the cases, cop by cop, and in alphabetical order for each defendent per cop. You might also see some people there for more serious offenses, depending on the size of the town/city.
If you think you were wrongly ticketed, then be prepared with evidence to support your case - which is not just, "I wasn't going that fast." Above all else, BE POLITE. DO NOT cop an attitude (no pun intended) with either the judge or the cop who gave you the ticket. If it's your first offense, the judge may reduce the charge, if possible according to law. You might want to look up the traffic code on the internet - I don't remember exactly how, but I did it once for a girlfriend of mine in VA. This will let you know what your possible options are.
Basically, dress sharp - cut your hair, trim your nails, etc - be polite, smile at the judge if he/she seems friendly (you'll know long before you get up there what the personality of the judge is.) and if appropriate, convey a sense that you will do your best not to let this happen again. They like that.
Good luck.
ps You weren't a jerk to the officer at the time you were ticketed, were you? That would not be good. If you were, be sure to apologize for this, to the cop him/herself or to the judge, if the cop is a raging bu**hole.

If you want to plead guilty you can go by the judges office and he will take your guilty plea and let you pay your fine and not have to go to court.
If you are wanting to "fight" the case, then of course show up on time, and hold your temper, and like one answer sure hope you didn't give a hard time to the police...they frown on that
mainly though traffic court passes pretty fast

Don't worry about the court. they handle many cases a day like yours and just run you thru motions and give you the fine. Be sure to ask for traffic school to take the points off your record http://trafficschools.blogspot.com
