YES...it certainly can if that gum contains xylitol!!! I don't know anything about Orbit itself but if it contains xylitol, which is a sugar substitute in some sugarless gums, this can be toxic to dogs! Attached is a press release from the American Veterinary Medical Association. The ASPCA has issued similar warnings in recent months. Some dogs have DIED from eating sugarless gum.
Give your vet a call right away, do NOT wait!! The article states that even a few pieces of gum with xylitol can be toxic to a 22lb dog. Though your dog is larger if he is a lab, if he ate the whole package, that could possibly cause some very serious if not fatal problems. I hate to scare you, but you must seek at least the opinion of a vet in your area right away or at least look at the ingredients of the gum that your dog ate to see if xylitol is included.

Please call your vet ASAP at least for their opinion, esp since he is only 6 months old! Hopefully there will be no problem but to be on the safe side, DO NOT WAIT, get off the Internet and get the advice of a local vet. If you are a kid, please tell an adult NOW.

Can Dogs Eat Gum

It can but I doubt that in this instance anything will go wrong. In matters like this it is best to wait and watch. If the dog stops eating, becomes lethargic then take the animal to the dogtor. Vetrinarian in mature language.
Sugars, are naturally bad for dogs. So are potatoes, onions, chocolate, cooked bones, chicken/turkey/duck bones.
The problem is that dogs are born scavengers. They are
born with the instinct to eat whatever they can get they're maws and paws on. We cannot train that part of the animal out of it. They will always be on the lookout for scraps or a garbage banquet.
It looks like you have to keep an extra vigil about your dogs basic instinct.
Watch the dog for the next day or two and if the hairy cur doesn't behave well in the active manner the wee mutts do? Go see a vet.
All the best.

Gum does hurt your dog. The Xylitol in it can easily kill your dog if it eats abunch of gum at once. Also I see where your coming from my dog loves gum. She always finds it, but it hasnt hurt her and she six years old. Your dog should be fine as long as it only gets a peice or two every once in a while.

as with chocolate and raisins, sugar free gum can be toxic to dogs. trust me on this the toxicology vet at the university told us this said it messes with their blood sugar. i dont know how much they have to eat but it would really be best to call your vet. if he starts to act strange get him into a clinic now.

My dogs love bubble gum. She chews it for awhile, and spits it out. She look so funny chewing it. If the dog swallows it, I wouldn't give it to her/him
