Right now, focus on classes in current events and English. You'll need strong writing skills, including spelling and basic grammar. (You can't rely on Spell Check to recognize the difference between there and their.) Read as many magazines and newspapers as you can and consider what you like and dislike about them. If you have an opportunity to work on a school paper, newsletter or yearbook, go for it.

When you are ready to choose a college, look at those with strong journalism, communications or English departments.

Good luck!

At 13, i wanted to boost right into a fashion desginer too. I did slightly examine and found out that a pair of million out of 75,000 style desginers get everywhere. frequently, they very own there very own little botique, make little or no earnings, and it would not even rely if there desgins are as stable a Juicy Couture's because of the fact nboody even is conscious they exist. regrettably, you're able to absolutely %. yet another feild till you want to finally end up broke and devastated. i'm sorry to return so stressful on you like this, yet i think of somebody has to tell you whats waiting you available, different than a good purchase of excited females thinking how relaxing it may be to be put in Ellegirl, yet have completed no examine and have not have been given any theory whats gazing for them. stable success!

Read up, as the other person said, about the different types of journalism there are. If your school has a newspaper, try to join the staff. Write on your own time to better your skills.

When you write, re-read what you've written. Edit, edit, edit! You want your writing to be as error-free, clear, and interesting as you can get it.

Take journalism in high school. Depending where you live, maybe you can go to the local newspaper office and actually speak with the staff. Actually get up close to see how a paper is run.

I'm trying to get into journalism at uni this year. I tried to prepare myself by becoming as in touch with current events as possible by reading many different newspapers and watching the news every night. I worked on my writing skills by writing a blog about my life and current events. and i asked my local newspaper if i could write for them, and now i write one article for them monthly, which has been a great help by increasing my communication skills through interviewing along with giving me knowledge of how a paper is put together and the roles of journalists and editors. so that has been a great help!

hope this helps. good luck, you sound determined, you can do it. Don't listen to the people who tell you that you are too young to know what you want to do.

For starters, take the journalism classes that your school offers/will offer (in high school, and as long as they're good.)

You'll also need to know proper grammar. I recommend reading Sleeping Dogs Don't Lay by Richard Lederer & Richard Dowis. (It's actually entertaining, and no, I'm not an old, grammar-obsessed loser. I'm still in high school and one of my friends who also wants to be a journalist told me to read it, so you should check it out.

Another good book to have is The Dictionary of Concise Writing (10,000 Alternatives to Wordy Phrases) by Robert Hartwell Fiske.

Good luck :]
