I never plan my life because life never happens as we expect it to. However, I always set goals and make plans to achieve those goals.

I definitely set goals. I have for more than ten years now. One of my goals was to live in New York City and work in fashion. I had no idea how that would happen, but it was a goal.

Several years later, through a course of events that I still can't believe happened to me I landed smack in the middle of a career as a celebrity makeup artist. I had been a receptionist at a law firm. In my new career I worked with top models and celebs and my name and artistry appeared in almost every magazine on the market! I earned in one day what I earned in an entire month at the law firm.

I no longer do that because I don't live in NYC anymore. So I prayed and decided I wanted to be a writer. I set that goal for myself two years ago and I've had two non-fiction books published (I co-wrote them and they were published by a small press in Canada, but still...), tons of magazine articles and I am meeting with publishers about my first novel in July! I am a full time freelance writer, just like I wrote.

It's more rewarding to think about where you want to go and how you'll get there. Keep a journal and look back at what you've accomplished. It's an amazing feeling.

I try to determine what it is that I truly want, and then move in that direction. But, I am too old to think I can control everything and, therefore, make my future. It's 50/50. Still, you cannot achieve any of your dreams if you don't know what they are and how to get there.
