My 10 month old son, sleeps in his own crib. He has never slept through the night. Since birth he has always got up every 4-6 hours, until this day he is the same way. Like clock work he is up @ 3:30 a.m. Usually after drinking a bottle is goes right back to sleep. When he's put to bed he drinks about 6 oz. of Enfamil Lactofree Formula. I just thought by now he should be sleeping through the night. Any suggestions would help! Thank you!

My one year old doesn't sleep through the night every night still. I cannot just let him cry and his age I don't think he'd know how to handle that since I've never done it to him before. You go with your instincts as to what to do though.

If he get's up at the same time everynight, it's usually out of habit. And of course he will drink the bottle as it's been several hours that he's last eaten. I'm assuming he has 3 meals a day of solids plus bottles (if not he should be eating 3 meals by now, try increasing solids at this age) Feed approx every 4-4.5 hrs. Does he have a bottle before being put down for the night ??? Make sure he's asleep with a full tummy. Try gradually replacing the night bottle with water. (Talk with you doc first to see if you can gradually thin out the formula) And if he gives you the okay, he'll soon just be with water and may stop waking up as he's not getting anything "good". If that tactic fails. Go in every 5-10 minutes and tell him it's time for bed and will hopefully after a few nights get the hint that you mean business and you're not feeding him. Give a pacifier or snuggly toy, a quick rock (if you want) and put him back down. It will be hard at first, but should iron itself out in a week or so.

Good LUck.

This is a habit, not a need for food. Many many, in fact most, babies sleep through the night way before 10 months. You need to ignore him at 3:30 am, turn on some white noise and close your door if it helps, and let him cry. In a week or less he will get the clue and stop doing it. I'm not just yapping, I've had 7 babies. YOu gotta do it, sister. Babies won't break bad habits on their own. Mommy has to do it for them.

Try feeding him more solid food before bedtime + the bottle if he will take it. If he still wakes up out of habit, give him a bottle with a little extra water. Gradually decreasing the formula until it is just a bottle of water.

Try riding in the car with him, with the window cracked. The wind and soft cruise usually gets them snoozin for the whole night.
