I'm 5 1/2 months and most people can't tell I'm pregnant. For me I'm naturally curvy with a small waist so having a small bump in the front just looks like a little extra fat. Most people are just starting to show at 16 wks., so if you've already gained a lot of weight your body is probably storing it where it would normally if you weren't pregnant.

The "beer gut phase" can last throughout the entire 2nd trimester, or it can be over by the end of the 1st, depending on your body type and whether you've been pregnant before. Thinner women may have a cute baby bump by 13 or 14 weeks. I was large and didn't look pregnant until I was about 26 weeks ( I just looked like I loved to drink Guiness!). I know its frustrating, but wait it out...

It is too soon for others to notice through your clothes. To you, however, you notice and you interpret it as looking fat. Don't worry, you will be plenty big by the time the baby is born! I know how big those maternity clothes seem when your regular clothes start to not fit. It is almost like a non-pregnant person wearing maternity clothes. They fill up quickly, however.

I can't tell you why, but i can tell you it's normal. All women develop differently. some carry "high" and some carry "low". A friend of mine didn't "look" preggo until she was 7 months along. A lot of women also gain a lot of "water weight" too. I don't have that cute preggo belly either. I am 10 weeks, but when i was preggo with my son, i didn't have that. My face became more "full" looking also. I hated the way I looked when I was preggo, except when I felt the baby kick, then i loved it...lol.

At 16 weeks you still have a lot of growing to do, the uterus doesn't reach the belly button until ~20 weeks and after then it'll start looking like a baby bump.

That inbetween stage is hard.

If it's your first pregnancy, you will get bloated. People will stare, call you balloon, but don't mind them! It's your beautiful little baby in there, and if you want it to be healthy, you should be able to take the consequences.
Your ankles will puff up till they look like hard-boiled eggs, and you will get stretch marks.
But DON'T CARE!!! If it's for the sake of a baby, I wouldn't mind it at all...

You are looking at yourself with a critical eye. I bet others see you as a baby bump!

You may want to talk with your doctor if you feel you are already holding fluid. There is an easy way to check, the doctor can teach you.

Congratulations

It;s not really that normal to gain that much weight in such a short time. I think you need to see your doc. If all is normal then it is probably just how the baby is laying. my baby hugs my spine one day, and I look like im not even prego, but the next will lay across me causing me to just look fat. I am 32 weeks prego with my 2nd kid.

I am 39 weeks and I think I don't look pregnant either. I look at other pregnant women and you can tell they are expecting but with me I think people just think I am fat.
