how do you get the rubber mounts holding the tailpipe on a 1989 ford 6 cyl van off to replace the tailpipe?

They just slide off the hangers :) Rusted baked on rubber yeah they will slide off easily :) try some wd40 or some kroil and let it sit for a while , or if you want to let the pipe get nice and warm then take a thick glove and pull it off that can work too :) good luck

Take the vehicle to a muffler shop and have them do it , unless you have a cutting torch, cause that's what you would have to do anyway, they will cut then off and weld new ones on, as well as new pipe too. good luck.. Fords rule....
