When you really think about it's just like any other day. Each day is a New Year. I know I should have asked this question a long time ago but I didn't have time to do it.

I never understood that. I mean, even if you didn't celebrate on Dec. 31... it was still gonna be 2007 the next day. It's all just an excuse to party like a retard.

They make a big deal because some people are happy to see another year (that others who had pass away could not see or enjoy). Also, some religions believe that a New Year well bring people wealth, happiness etc... Thats why pepole make New Years a big deal.

I think the same thing. It's just an excuse to party.

But, I think, traditionally, it's been a good reason to party. A way to look forward to a fresh start, a way to celebrate achievements, a way to treasure what you have and look forward. It's kind of like Thanksgiving, or Happy Birthday, celebrated in that spirit...at least traditionally, I would guess.

Why do people make a big deal about birthdays or holidays?

New Year has become a symbol of new beginnings, kinda like Easter.

I never fully understood the purpose of celebrating new years, except that humans like to celebrate and have parties. Although it does make sense to celebrate a new year that like 2000 or some other millenium.
