There is no OFF button or anything. Will leaving it ON wear it down or are they designed to be on all the time?

We had ours on all the time for years and it was just fine. We only took it out because we got Verizon FIOS and they give you their own router.

In theory, yes, you can leave a router turned on all the time.
If you're not using it, then it's simply consuming energy to no purpose, otherwise there's no real harm done. Just make sure it runs cool, is well ventilated and securely placed.
And make sure your security precautions are up to date.

There is, however, is a school of thought which says that a regular power-off "restart" will help to maintain your connection speed. In fact, that's what I was told by the support folk at a certain well-known DSL provider, every time I called to complain about dropped connections, snail-speed links, etc... I switched to fiber instead :-)

All routers are built to be on 24-7. I just leave my router on, though if it is wireless and you're against radiation, then it would be smart to unplug the power cord when u dont use it. If it's just a adsl router connected with telephone lines, then it should last a few years while turned on 24-7

My thoughts, do not leave it on all the time unless you have some downloaded going on ;-), my linksys started giving some problem after 2 years, but than I started switching it off and it has helped in good signal and connectivity.

There is no documentation which says that they should be switched off, Switching off would help you in saving some electricity as well as helping you in recycling the connection info. Make sure that you switch of the cable modem or dsl modem as well.

wow, loser answer Mrs. Ed. besides, first be certain you have internet coming to the cable you're plugging into your router. in case you do, then you definately're the two doing something incorrect with the router setup, or it would desire to be greater complicated than that. in case you have a DSL modem, it desires to be in "bypass with the aid of" or "bridge" mode. that way the router can assign IP addresses because it pleases without conflict. and additionally you will possibly be able to desire to apply an Ethernet cable. it incredibly is the only element which will artwork.

They're designed to be on all the time. Usually you want your network to be up 24/7 so there's no reason to turn it off.

They're tiny little computers that don't draw much power. There is no danger at all in leaving it on all the time.

yes, it is ok to keep on all the time, but you should have some firewall or internet security in your computer to prevent it from hackers.
