A dead bolt. They go right into the frame of the door. She'd have to break the door and leave very clear sign and damage to get inside.

The problem is NOT the lock. The problem is that your sister is being allowed to violate your privacy. This is treating you with disrespect. Your parents should find that unacceptable. They should talk to your sister about this and put an end to it.

Allowing this kind of problem sends a message that they do not respect you as a person. That is very damaging to a person, young or old.

At your age, you deserve at least some privacy. It is not appropriate that you keep too many secrets. Your parents need to know some private things about your life to help you to learn and to protect you from things that you cannot protect yourself from.

By not allowing you ANYTHING private, you cannot grow into a normal person. Talk to your parents. If they refuse to help, how about a priest, minister, rabbi, or whatever you have. If not, how about a school councilor or even a trusteed teacher.

I had similar issues when I was a child. Many parents do not understand how this damages a person's self confidence. It is important that they put an end to it right now. It has gone on too long.

I have to assume she does this while you are in the room and she does this just to bug you. If that's the case, Tony and DSM are right. Talk to your parents, if that doesn't work, solve the problem by blocking the hole in the door knob as prescribed by Tony. DO NOT install any lock that may trap you in your room. We'd hate to have you perish in a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning.

Different thought!

If none of the above are true get a keyed entry lock. She won't be able to get in without a key. If she is really persistent the damage she causes won't be appreciated by your parents and new rules should be laid down.
Good Luck!

Chances are that your door handle has a hole in the center of the handle on one side and a rotating lock on the other. If thats the case, you can cover the hole with super glue or an epxoy. If you have another style of handle, you can definitely keep her out by replacing your handle with a deadbolt. If she has the determination and skill to pick that, there must something in there that you need to put in a lock box at the bank. goodluck!

You can shell out a few extra dollars and get a 6- pin tumbler lock. All the major doorknob manufacturers make their version. Basically this is how it works. To pick the typical lock you have a set of pins that have to line up at different heights to allow the locking/unlocking mechanism to turn. Typical locks have four or five pins. By adding another pin it makes it extremely difficult to pick. It's all in how much you want to spend. They can cost as little as $20 and as much as $75

Put 3 good deadbolt locks on the door with different keys. If that doesn't help get a master lock smith to solve your problem.

Even though you are 14, you are certinly old enough to have your privacy respected. I hope talking to your parents will help solve the problem. She just wants your attention, or if much older, perhaps she's trying to show her "authority", even though she's not an adult.

Other Answers have given you some good ideas about changing the mechanism, but your parents would have to be involved. I really hope you get their help with this. We care about you. Good Luck...

get a padlock installed. It's easy to do. That way you can lock it and she can't get in even if she does pick the doorknob lock.
