even if a lifetime subscription is included?

Yes... It's worth way more than $1000 if a lifetime subscription is included. They are currently selling on ebay for between $1200 - $1300.

Tivo has a better interface than the cable DVRs, has better searching features, season pass, etc.

You cannot use the pay-per-view and on demand channels with Cable Card 1.0, but the cable company won't let you record those channels anyways with their dvr.

So in my area, comcast cable charges $9.95 per month to use their DVR, which has less space than the series 3 tivo. But with all the additional features that Tivo has compared to the comcast dvr, then it is definetly worth the increased price. Tivo may in the future get approval from cable labs so that shows can be transferred to a pc, and the E-sata port can be used to transfer shows to an external hard drive. Even before these features are added it is worth the $1000..

Not when you can pay $5/month through a cable provider that does practically the same thing.

Just wait and the Tivo will get cheaper. They will be forced to lower the price, when they find out no one is willing to pay $1000. For $1000, you are better off getting a media center and forget the monthly fees.
