I dreamt I was back at my Grandparents home (now dead) with a 9 yr old girl and a 5 yr old (my sons age). They were hostage to a man and now so was I. He would stand in the doorway to the room we were in, holding a large ktchen knife telling us to stab him. As we did he laughed. We were angry that he would not die or let us leave (we were not scared). As the knife went in and came out I could feel the knife tearing him. But it only looked like deep scratch marks with no blood dripping. THE WIERDEST BIT - He told us to try it (being stabbed).
At one point we knew we could leave the house. The 9 yr old had been there since she was 5 and scared to leave. The 5 yr old was recent, and I had just appeared.
I could not leave as the children would not and therefore had to stay. No one was scared.

My interpretation..... You are giving somebody you love more freedom. This is shown in symbolism in your dream with the children, who want to stay without you. But you know in your gut that you are still needed. And that is why you hesitated to leave. You want your loved one to know you are still there at any time. The man holding you hostage is a symbolism of your guilt as you step away from your loved one, as your loved one assures you not to worry. The man does not bleed, as he is just the emotion of guilt. You ignore his suggestion of stabbing yourself because guilt only hurts you if you choose to accept it. No one was scared since you will be there, a phone call away, whether you stay at the house or not. The grandparents' house symbolizes your roots, one of the places you developed your inner child, who got nurturing when you were growing up. You remember the good feeling of being cared for, and will be there to protect your loved one, child or adult.

I think it means you have been subconsciously affected by things u have seen on the television or in films. I believe it is because whereas u are aware that the violence is not real, i.e. no blood or pain or fear, it is fundamentally not good for the youth of today to be subjected to this kind of imput. This would seem to be a source of anxiety.
without being Einstein or Solomon, the fact that u brought this to our attention would indicate that u have concerns on a social level.
Is it true that in recent months or years u have voiced these concerns to others??

I think the part of grandparent involvement is bcos u are aware that in their days, the world was basically a much safer and less violent place. maybe part of u longs to return to those days of innocence?

alternatively....

I don't know how close u were to ur grandparents but i also feel this could be part of the berievement process regarding them. I was sad when my grandad died as I had never been as appreciative of him as I should nor had I been all that friendly. I have felt some comfort in the fact that he only ever saw me play football once, when we were on a field near his flat and I scored. I was aged about 9 or 10.

a big point for youngsters. when u r old enough and mature enough to appreciate ur granparents, they are usually gone. all that u r left with is a feeling of sadness and regret. same about other old people, especially relatives, i suppose.

i suppose the man at the door holding everyone hostage could be death itself. u cannot fight it, it feels no pain and only laughs at ur attempts to thwart it??

interesting point, i wonder if that is real close?

thanks for sharing.

It doesn't mean a thing. A dream is nothing more than random imagery flashing through your brain just before you wake up, and your brain joins them together in a nonsense story to try and make sense of it
