I have a TiVo Series 2 with DirecTV, and it is painfully slow. It's around 3 years old, and I do not have a phone line plugged in. I have not made a daily call for the last 912 days, for non-important reasons. While I'm watching TV, the info and time control works smoothly, the guide is also fine. When I press the TiVo Home button, it takes around a minute or so to come up. Whenever I make a selection, it also takes a while. The "Now Playing" selection is the longest. When I go from "Now Playing" to "TiVo Home" and back, it's faster.

Why is that happening? Does it have to do with not making a daily call?

You should let it make a call if you can. They transmit software updates to your unit that way and if there was an issue they were aware of that caused this problem it could have been fixed a couple years ago and you wouldn't have gotten it since you left it unplugged.

I would say you should make a daily call, especially since it has been 912 days. Also, check out www.tivocommunity.com for others that might have the same problem.
