I would get involved as much as possible with community theatre, school plays etc. It may seem dorky but you will meet a lot of people who also want to do the same thing. Some of them will know a thing or to that can help you find an agent. And when you do, having a play or two under your belt will make you look better to that agent.

Honestly, act in a few plays in community theatre. Read books, observe people. Get a lot of experience under your belt. A lot. Then, maybe consider finding an agent.

Find an acting school. You will get into LOTS of plays. Sometimes if you're really good at acting they take you to different places around the world just for a play! I hoped I helped! =)

People who act do so because they can't imagine doing anything else.

You don't say what you've done. You need to do as much theatre as possible, because you need to learn things like how to project your voice, how to deliver lines, how to memorize things, how to hit your mark, how to work with a director, and much more. If you start with local acting classes and community theatre, and the directors like you, they will introduce you to agents and make sure you get seen.
