I just bought me a 1982 F 150 4 speed with granny low it has a 6 cyl in it I was wondering what type of fluids I should use for this older truck I plan on fixing it up a little and driving it about 50 miles a week the temp ranges from 30 to 95 out side winter & summer…

Syn Oil?
Trans Fluid?
Rear End?

I also have to put a new donut in the exhaust and I was wondering some good ways to get the nuts loose from the studs with out snapping them…

you can use any type of high mileage oil. And any ford brand transmission fluid. And for the nuts on the exhaust use some wd4 or 3in1oil let it sit for 30 Min's be for braking them loose.

If you plan on Keeping the truck what ever you do don't change to synthetic oil! that truck was born and raised on "Real Oil" and if you change over it could verywell be the death of it. stay with a "Good" mulit grade oil and above all DO NOT USE PENNZOIL IN A FORD!!!! all that junk dose is build up carbon on the top of the heads around the valvesprings and block the oil flow! as for the exhaust dount nuts......like the other guys said.....use a good penetrating oil. I like PB Wrench or Knocker loose myself. Either run the truck or play a little heat on the nuts and they should come loose.........try tightening them first about 1/4 turnthen back them off .......if they get stiff again turn it back up then go down again . It keeps the threads from filling up with junk.

A 6 cyl ford will run on anything. I used them for business and put over a million miles "collectively" on them. I never had a failure of an internal engine part. I typically used 10w-30 in winter and 10w-40 in summer. Good luck on the exhaust stud. I'd soak it with penetrating oil and tap lightly with a hammer to try a free it.

synthetic oil , 5w 40 or 50 if you can find it, as for the donut, if you can find a product called moovit , spray the studs and run the truck,do it a couple of times and you can spin it with a wrench ( clean with a wire brush too ) tranny and rear end try a bit of Lucas oil stabilizer in there , that is a great truck , enjoy it.

only carry the engine far sufficient as much as get to the bolts on the pan yet make helpful once you replace the gasket on the engine use alot of gasket sealer between the engine and oil pan in spite of each thing surfaces have been wiped sparkling on the engine block and oil pan.
