Okay take my advice please. The A707 sync I don't think is a great phone for a 13 year old but these people who say firefly and disney phones are crazy. Those phones are aimed at 8-10 year olds.

If you're worried about him abusing the service, as your cell phone company to restriction text messaging/picture messaging and internet capability. Cingular also offers parental controls and purchase blockers that will prevent him from purchasing adult content (or any content if you choose) to his device.

You're the only person who knows if this person is mature enough for the phone. Personally if you are a cingular customer and want a good phone for a 13 year old, I would try something different, like the Nokia 6102i. The Sync (A707) has had mixed reviews at best. If you don't care if the phone has a camera, the nokia 6030 is an excellent choice. Regardless, if he's accident prone, take out the insurance.

the best phones to get for a 13 year old are the FireFly, or the cingular disney phone (where you can keep an eye on your son without him even knowing) plus you can disable features (such as accessing the internet when he's not supposed to)

but these phones (that are kid-friendly) let you input the only numbers he's allowed to call and when you do that, he can't call anyone thats not input into the phone.

i strongly recommend these phones because he will think he has all the freedom in the world...and not know that you're still pulling the strings LOL

I would get a phone that has no features for a 13 year old. Just like the above commenter stated they are apt to buy expensive games, ringtones, aim charges, text messaging charges etc. The more features the more money you will probably pay in fees later on. Ringtones cost about 2-3 + dollars and games cost 6 + dollars. I'm not sure how much music costs, but I can only imagine it will get expensive. Instead buy him an ipod or mp3 player and make him pay for his own music. I'm sure he'll learn how much one dollars adds up for each song he downloads.

If you do end up getting him a phone ask him if he will be text messaging. If he is MAKE SURE YOU GET A TEXT MESSAGE PLAN. 5-10c may not seem like alot but you'd be amazed at how much text messaging adds up. I once payed 30 dollars for text messaging and I have friends who have payed over 150 dollars simply for text messaging. So spend the extra 5 bucks for unlimited text messaging, in the long run it will probably save you money.

If you do end up getting him this phone, make sure he has to pay for all overage charges that he buys.

Wait a little longer (preferrably 2 years) before you get him the phone.

Teenagers are tempted to download music and movies.

Especially since he is a cellular phone savvy
