Mostly just in the savana or jungle. Around the world some chimps actualy seek out hot water ponds to bathe in and other interesting habbitats. I hear in China archeoligists find bones of large chimp or more correctly apes who lived in caves. Guess what ever it takes to get out of the rain or seek protection from the elements.
