I had a similar dilemma. Growing up I would often hear that I was too serious and or unfriendly. Others would say they "couldn't read me." I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong; I was genuinely interested in making new friends. Why would they see me this way? Then I realized I didn't smile when greeting people. It was hard at first but slowly I forced myself to smile, and over time it came naturally. The response was amazing. People smiled back. They gravitated to me more, thought me more sociable and interesting. All because of my smile.I'm sure you have a beautiful smile. Give it a shot.

Just be the smart, funny, sweet girl that you are? Show interests in your new friends hobbies and what they like to do for fun etc. Ask questions about their family and show interest in their life. You can also try just asking them to hang out - watch a move, go for milkshakes etc. It is not hard.
